He has played many brilliant games specially during <strong>World Chess Championship 2008<\/strong> at Bonn against one of the greatest chess players <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vladimir_Kramnik\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vladimir Kramnik<\/a><\/strong> from Russia.<\/em>Rivalry and Friendship between Vishy and Kramnik is well known and has been very special as the \u2018<em><strong>great duo<\/strong><\/em>\u2019 is very different when they meet as opponents over the board. Remember, the world championship in 2000 was a knock-out &amp; in 2007 it was round robin tournament which made <strong>Vishy a world chess<\/strong> <strong>champion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14149 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Vishay_Kramnik.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Vishay_Kramnik.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Vishay_Kramnik-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><strong>(A still from World Chess Championship 2008)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>World Chess Championship title had a great hype to this match. This was Vishy\u2019s first test in world championships as a match player. The fight was intense as Kramnik had shared few nasty comments before the match to which like a gentleman, Vishy chose not to react to!<\/p>\n<p>Despite being a strong player<strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>Vishy has always managed not to get disturbed by off the board comments!<\/p>\n<p>After going through the championship which was eventually over in halfway (Vishy winning 3 games), <em>Vishy showed why he is known as <strong>Madras Tiger<\/strong>!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We would like to show one of the brilliant games from the match.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Road to Game 5 of WCC 2008<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14151 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Game_1_map.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Game_1_map.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Game_1_map-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>First 2 games were drawn &amp; game 3 was first decisive game won by Anand with black pieces. Playing a razor-sharp \u2018meran\u2019 variation of the Semi-Slav Defence. Game 4 was also drawn and players entered game 5 with Anand leading 2.5 to 1.5 of Kramnik. In Game 5 (Kramnik with white) black\u2019s structure was slightly spoilt whereas white had a solid king safety! Seems a very promising position on the board while we enter an endgame where black might have to defend to get a draw\u2026 Not Really!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tactics need to go beyond a Horizon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14153 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_3.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_3-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>\u00a0 In this position, Anand gave a check with Rc1 &amp; Kramnik had an only move to play which was Bf1 to prevent check!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here, Anand to Kramnik\u2019s horror scarified his knight, by playing Ne3!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14155 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_4.png 400w, https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_4-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Kramnik was forced to capture it with pawn and in reply Anand recaptured with his pawn. Now, there is no way bishop can come out to stop the pawn on e3 from queening\u2026 Two of white\u2019s passed pawns are mere spectators!<\/p>\n<p><em>Kramnik after realizing its all over&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14156 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_5.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.victoriouschess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Map_5-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So, after this move Kramnik was forced to resign. A dramatic end to the game! Perhaps the game ended pre-maturely!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beyond the analysis, a brilliancy is always finding best moves in any position!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This tells us, even top GMs, at times miss on part where at the end of the tactics, the chances are over for one side.
